D3 -- Magnifying Eyepiece rubber cup.. Falling off?>
I was at a shoot over weekend, using the DK17m magnifying eyepiece.. very nice.. and the DK19 big rubber eye cup attachment..
I love this combo, its very nice and pleasure to use (big clear image in VF)
It was difficult getting the DK19 onto the DK17m originally.. there is n included some metal ring and it fits on just barely to hte rear of the rubber piece.. holding it onto the DK17m glass eye piece..
I had read reports that this piece falls off a lot and someone had put o-rings, etc.. to keep it from falling off
For sure after 3 days.. my small metal ring on the back also fell off.. and then i almost lost the rubber DK19 cup... thanksfully still in my bag
ANY ADVICE HOW TO GET THIS THING BACK ON OR GLUE IT TO THE DK17 or ETC?

I had the self same problem a long time ago (losing at least two eye cups) and somebody on this forum came to the rescue then.
The solution is to place the DK-19 over the barrel of the DK-17M then mount the whole assemblage onto the eye-piece socket. That way the DK-19 does not sit proud of the prism finder head and then keep falling off.
If as I do you walk around with the camera over a shoulder or whatever then you may still find that little rubber ring that protects your eye around the rim of the DK-17M might still fall off as it rubs against clothing. Just a design issue really with no real solution unless you fancy gluing it to the rim.

You WILL lose the rubber ring off a DK-17m unless you glue it down. I lost three in about two months. (And note: you can't buy the rings by themselves. You need to buy a new standard eyepiece ($24) and put its ring on the DK-17m. This is less expensive than getting new DK-17m's ($42 ea). My DK-17m now has a small amount of rubber cement under the ring, and the ring has been there for about two years.

I've lost more than a few rubber eyecup this way and just as many with the rubber cup placed over the barrel of the DK-17m too.
In the end, I placed the DK-17m in a vice, got the eyecup mounted correctly on the end of it and then pinched the securing ring with pliers to make it impossible to remove. It'll be on there forever but it's fitted in the correct place, has never come off in about 2 years despite being squashed and bumped constantly.
I've actually not tried this on my D3 yet.

Go to the hardware store and buy a couple of rubber o-rings that just fit over the barrel of the eyepiece with enough thickness to press against the camera body and the metal rertaining ring when the eyepiece is installed. The problem will be solved without resorting to glue or crimping.
