Why is that no suprise to me? Brad warned me months ago to get NPS membership, but I failed to follow through. I should call and thank Brad, as he's saved me money that can spent elsewhere in my capital budget at work. Later when they are more accessable to us mere humans, I'll buy one for myself with my own money. I workl for a top 10 research university hospital and they were going to spring for my camera. If I don't spend my capital budget money it disappears, unlike my personal money.
Today I photographed a doctor fix an cerebral emnbolism by fishing through the arterial system and working with endoscopic tools and an extremely high res digital bi-plane flourosocpe. My pictures don't show up in regular magazines, but rather in medical and radiological journals. Sometimes our procedures are etherneted to schools and medical centers around the world so that doctors can learn there ground breaking procedure, so I'm pretty sure I have the qualification for membership.
Did I mention I was going to become a charter member of the " procastinators' club," but I never got around to filling out the membership forms?
Well, all you guys (and gals) enjoy your new D3's... My D2x is serail number 5000957, I guess I won't get a serial nuber that low this time (LOL)!

Just got a call from the manager of my store. Next week pretty sure. I know he's getting them Friday and I suspect NPS is getting all his first batch. He was not completely solid but pretty sure next week. I'm in high single digits on the list. This is a big store in a big town. Only real camera store within 200 miles.
I called my local store today also. Fortunately it's in a small town. I didn't put my name on the list until the middle of October but I'm still only #3 on there list. They expect to have some D3's by the end of the week and I should have one from the first bunch. I'm very anxious.

That's what I did this time around. Went with a small store out in a small suburb. A place not many know about. It's 100s of miles away from me. I ordered in late October to be #7 on the list. The prepay helped him actually get Nikon to send him those bodies.
When I had called Lisa at Berger she already had 65 preorders. Knew I had no chance of getting one there, but I do like to get stuff from Brad. I did get a D300/MB-D10 from Brad I have been playing with for a few days.
My store was told by Nikon that the first shipment would arrive today - but none showed up. The store thinks it's a shipping issue and that Nikon has shipped as promised, so maybe tomorrow.
I was number two at the store, but unfortunately I have now have zero idea where I am on the list. Nikon sent out that "certification letter" to Canadian buyers, then made their own priority list. So my store expects each camera to arrive with a name already on the box and Nikon has not offered any information on who got what ranking.
My D3 is in country and being processed through customs right now. I should have it tomorrow or at the lastest Monday or Tuesday. My 14-24 is at the store as of today! The question is do I pick it up today or wait and pick it up with the D3?
D300,D2X & D200 NOW Next week D3 and 14-24 F2.8 too! If your not shooting Nikon your doing it WRONG!
The owner of Roberts called me yesterday to tell me that I'll have my D3 and 14-24mm on Friday 11/30. I'm not NPS, but I'm high on the list and a good customer (I'm local and they know me). He told me that they had forty-something NPS orders, but are receiving more than that. One key piece of information is that he volunteered to me that they "also have lenses coming in." I asked if I could get a 14-24 and he said yes, even though I had not pre-ordered.
I'm not so high up on my list. But here is what I heard from my dealer. Nikon asked them for the names of everyone that pre-ordered (and paid a deposit). As the shipments come in, Nikon will attach the buyer's name right on the box. I do not know if it is a post-it note or adhesive label or what. Has anyone else heard that Nikon was putting customer's names on the boxes?
Congratulations in advance to all of you lucky ones who will get yours Friday!
Nikon is not putting everyones names on the boxes. ohmyfriggingoodness! Can you imagine if they did. We would have to wait months to get the cameras in. All those names! All those boxes.
Your dealer may put your name on the box. The store I'm purchasing mine from does not do it. The D300's did not have names on the boxes either. I'm just hoping that my camera comes in soon.
One thing for sure. People are so worried about how many NPS members are purchasing cameras and will there be enough left over for the non members. Just spoke with NPS. There are only a few hundred members with orders in. The other 11,500 cameras that are in the first shipment will go to those who preordered.
I got my D300 from the same store that said that "Nikon" is putting names on the boxes for D3's. My name was not on my D300, nor did they mention that it would be. The sales rep specifically said to me today that the cameras were coming from Nikon with the names on them based on the list of names that they gave to Nikon.
This store is small enough that they would know if the store is putting the names on. I don't understand why Nikon would do this either, but I do not know why the sales-person (who only deals with photo equipment at the one store) would make this up either.
I will never forget the excitement I had when I purchased my first Nikon F2 with motor drive! I was 17 years old and working part time for a medium sized daily newspaper. I'd been using an older Nikon F with a plain prism finder. OMG - that was such an exciting day! I still have many of the transparencies I shot with it that day.
And the D3 is even MORE exciting - almost 40 years later!
My dealer e-mailed me today to let me know my D3's would be in tomorrow afternoon. I feel like I"m 17 again - even though it's just a tool with which I can do my job - there's just something about this particular new Nikon that seems to be able to take us well beyond the scope of film! Something I surely did not believe would ever happen in my life time.
It's better than Christmas, either of my Honeymoons, and my first ever solo sky dive, all rolled into one!
I believe that if this camera can do even half of what it seems to be capable of doing, my professional photography career is just about to become the the most fun it's been in a long long time!
And yes - I"m an NPS member - have been since the inception of NPS. Anyone who's a pro should sign up - there's no cost and if nothing else - you might get your D3Xs a little sooner in a couple years!
Steven, When did you order from Calumet? I ordered 8/23 and have heard nothing. I ordered a D300 at the same time. They called Nov. 26, to ask if I still wanted it or if I wanted to hold it until the D3. Of course I had the D300 shipped. They couldn't give me a time frame for the D3 or where I was on the list.
Another forum member ordered 8/23 and hasn't heard from them. A person on DPR reports getting his last week that he ordered 8/24 (not NPS member). Calumet is rapidly dropping in my list of dealers. Really makes me angry as I've spent over $15K with them this year alone and have been a customer since the 70's. Looks like they are ignoring the waiting list and shipping out with some internal order.
I ordered 25 August. I've sent emails and they have not replied. A coworker told me he called Calumet and they said "Calumet only received 5 cameras on Nov. 30th."
That's as far as I know. This is the first time I've ordered from them. I went to Calumet based on their taking pre-orders for the D3.
Frankly, I expected they should have more clout than only getting 5 cameras. I always deal with B&H with ZERO problems, including emails. I admit I expected similar results with Calumet as I read they were big movers.
At this point, I can't do anything but wait or hope that I'll get lucky (in acquiring a D3).

Arrived Friday, Dec. 7th. This was the slowest ground shipping I have ever experienced. Of course most of it was in my mind, because I had D3 on the brain.
Side story - my wife knew nothing of the order. Friday I made a dinner date with her and when I saw her in the afternoon I asked her if she wanted to give me my Christmas present now. She asked what it was and I showed her that golden box.
I think the dinner date worked. I have never tried that before. I'll be filing that away for when my next lens comes.
well let's see, B & H has had my card charged for a week, and nothing. I'm number 10 on another list and nothing. So, the keyword is nothing. Waiting is the other keyword.
Since I was sick this weekend, didn't shoot much anyway, maybe it will come for Christmas anyway.
