I just received my D2Xs yesterday. Haven't had time to spend with it yet but someone was trying to spoil my happiness by posting stuff about D3 here already! It won't work, you can't spoil my special moment! I will enjoy this no matter what you say.
I only had few minutes to check out my new camera which I bought from fellow Nikonian here. It feels and acts like my old D2H which is a good thing as no other camera fits my hands the same way. I just love the ergonomics. It also reminds me of my F5 which I used to have for a while some years ago. I was thinking about Fuji S5 as I needed second body for my work (my Fuji S3 is falling apart) but couldn't resist the internal voice...
Way to go! And don't let all that D3 talk bother you. It won't be out for a while even if it's announced next week at PMA. Meanwhile you have a great camera you can shoot with today.
I just got my D2Xs about a month ago so I am just avoiding the D3 discussions. I for one am hoping it costs $7000 so I don't have to feel bad buying the D2Xs. There's now way I can spend $7000 on a body.
Hi Alex (And Andrew), Congratulations on your new toy ! Let us know how you like it and yes, get it out this weekend !! I am a D200 owner and I know how it feels to receive such a new "baby" toy !! I plan to get out this weekend to work with a newly purchased lens, the Nikon 135mm f2 DC lens, and I want to try black and white shots, as I have never even put my D200 in B&W mode ! And that D3 whatever will not be out for many months, so all those months you will have to enjoy your new DSLR and get all those great shots ! Thank you, Debra
Thanks guys! Unfortunately I won't have much time to play with my new ultimate toy (which I will use mainly for my wedding and other work photography) until next week, but I managed to set up the menus this morning. I have my D200 for over a year and I didn't even realize that it has B&W mode. As the above post suggests: I too shoot everything in color and than I have a really nice action to convert to B&W in PS or the Capture does it well too.
Alex and others, (not to hijack your thread or anything - thanks for all the advice on shooting B&W with my D200- I'll use it !).
back to new D2Xs: Do let us know how you make out with that new D2Xs even if you take a week or so to use it, it would probably take me that long to set it up and figure out the menus - we are happy for you, new cameras are like new children or new puppies - a real dose of fun !! Enjoy it ! Thank you, Debra
Me too. I got mine after thinking again and again.
There isn't anyway to justify such spending, but it just happens that I have to buy it. On the other hand, rest assure that even if Nikon D3 comes to the PMA 2007, it won't be on street any sooner, and yet I can have lots of fun with my D2Xs for a long time.
There is simply not much in difference, in buying a PC/notebook and Digital Equip. The value will drop by 40% the moment you pay for it... And before you realize, it become a paper weight even though it can still perform for the job it designed for.
I managed to buy mine slightly used so the price drop was good enough for me to justify the expense. Well I am kidding myself here - I am just a gear head! We had one nasty snowstorm here yesterday and I took few pictures of my wife and neighbor cleaning our driveways before everyone stop smiling because the snow never stopped for hours. Those are the very first pictures I took with my new baby (business tool officially). perhaps I post them on my Flickr site whenever I get to it - will let you know.
Way to go Alex. Just may join you now that the D3 introduction is up in the air. I almost bought one this fall but at the last minute decided to hold off and see when the D3 would come out. I have 2 really good D200's and plan to keep both.(Well one goes to Mrs. Berg) I'm one of those guys that wants the lastest and greatest and could certainly get by with what I have. The bottom line is I can get a new D2Xs for $4100.00 today and when the D3 comes out(Whenever) I will probably sell the D2Xs for $3300.00 to $3500.00. As far as I am concerned $500 or $600 is not too bad of a hit for a years use. Would you get a year out of a new D2xs or just wait for the D3. Another option may be to keep the D2Xs as a backup to the D3. Dan Berg
I agree with you Stan. I am one of those who wants to have the best and latest but it doesn't mean that my wallet (and/or my wife) allows it! I never owned the D2X, used to have D2H and missed the feel of the camera body inherited from the F5.
I've promised some samples from my (new to me)D2Xs. I am working on more but here are some to start with (just the first three taken in Oakville yesterday):
