Do I need to keep holding my breath or is the consenses that the prices of these two great cameras will drop in price before fall 2002? Guess I am hoping....

Fall 2000 . . . I like the idea of time travel . But into the future. Getting me the lightweight $ 2000 19 Mpix D5 ... yes!
I believe at some point the digital camera business will start following the 'guidelines' for the computer business. Older models are not becoming a real bargain, the price drops a little bit and then they are simply being discontinued and replaced with the more advanced model at some point. Didn't the D1 already went along that road?
Have a nice day

The D1 should come down in price as soon as the D100 comes to market. The D1X and D1H not likely, until the D2 comes out.
Have a great time :-)
