What are the available options for a split-image focusing screen in the D1-series bodies? I don't think there is a Katz-eye version available, but there must be something. I want to outfit my camera with a spllit-image screen with microprism collar.
What about AF and metering? What, if any, implications are there?
Edit: I heard something about using an FM3A screen these bodies...anyone tried this?
For my D1x, I use old Canon AE1p's screen, famous bright-split prism complete with micro prism type and surrounded by clear matte field. This screen will not vignetting even with slow or long lens, really helps in macro work even with bellows, extension rings or aperture step-down metering. OK, with a little problem, this split and micro prism circle not really in the center of frame.
I have an E screen in my D1H. The screens from an FM3a don't work well. I tried a K2 (from an FE2) and it didn't fit. It wasn't my screen, so I didn't try to make it fit:). Probably could be done, though. Not sure.
They take the same screens as an F100, but the E screen is a little different one than in the F100 (the gridlines are in the center of the screen for the D1, as opposed to full frame for the F100). They both will fit, though.
Have a good one, Bob

Okay...so you're saying I could buy a Beattie Screen for the F100 with split image...and would the autoexposure, AF, metering, and AF target displays all still work? This sounds cool if it's truly that easy.

AF should be fine, as that is done below the screen; AF target displays are just above the focusing screen (unlike the F5) so they're not affected. With the Beattie screen I can't say for sure about AE: I haven't used that particular one, but they're supposed to be brighter, which may affect exposure metering. I use Nikon E screens in my D1H and my D1X, and they work perfectly. LB
