Nikon really messed up on the menu portion of this update, IMHO.

I have not had a chance to test the AF updates yet, but AF definitely needed improvement, at least for long lenses (my 70-200 comes to mind). I will test AF this weekend.

Here's my take on the menu display. When I set the camera on the armrest of the couch (after the upgrade) the menu looked a little "foggy" to me. I tilted the camera and everything improved.

That was not an issue with the old menu. The old one was viewable from almost any angle and in almost any light, and it was sharp and bright and had high contrast.

The new one has muted colors with lower contrast and has to be viewed straight-on for maximum clarity. I suspect that with this lower contrast the menu is going to be more difficult to read in bright daylight since it is in incandescent light.

I would gladly pay extra to have the old menu interface restored and I'm going to tell that to Nikon. They also changed the graphics so that the left-column tab no longer looks like a tab -- it looks like a box which is a minor and subjective issue.
