I asked a Nikon technician the questions below and got evasive answers. Seems Nikon has approved only a limited number of CFs for compatibility with the D100, the max of which is only 340mb. Anyone out there have any info?
1. Does the D100 support the FAT32 format of the new (typeII) Pretec 3gb CF? If not, is there a firmware upgrade planned in the near future?
2. How well do the 1gb, 1.5gb or 2gb typeI CFs work in the D100?
I think the issue is simply that Nikon haven't tested the camera with the larger capacity cards so they won't give you a definite "Yes". That said, I don't recall ever hearing of anyone having problems with cards up to 512Mb in capacity; beyond that the cards get sufficiently expensive that fewer people buy them - it's cheaper to get 2x512Mb than 1x1Gb and it also means you'd loose less in the (extremely rare) case of a problem with the card.
