I have had a search around here, and looked around on the Internet, but can't find an answer. I have a WT-2a on my D2x and successfully use both ftp and ptp/ip modes.
One thing that seems to happen in ftp mode is that, after a short period of time (maybe 20 seconds or so) the link to the ftp server drops. This slows down the next transfer since it needs to re-establish the connection to both the wireless network and the ftp server. Is this normal behavior? (I guess it may be a battery saving feature). If so, is there a way to lengthen this timeout? I want it to stay in the "Now in FTP mode" mode for longer.
That's what I think I needed to know. I have the default meter timeout delay (CSM c3). I wondered if it was linked to the monitor timeout, but linking to the meter makes more sense. I guess I need to extend it from 6 seconds.
You're right about the battery. I used to get 600 shots over a month or so without recharging, now with the WT it lasts no time at all - you can almost see the battery meter dropping. Even after 4 days in the African bush with no power and my D2x I used to wonder why you'd need a second battery, or the new 4a - now I know!
