I'm have an older D1 that I'm learning how to use. I can't seem to get pictures to preview on the LCD screen and there's nothing in the manual to say how to do that. Can anybody help me out?

Well, Nikon D1 is a professional camera and most professionals prefer not to review their images after photo shoots because they're too busy to do that even if it takes 3 seconds. You have to go through the menu to turn on the image review feature then your camera will show you the picture that you just took. It happens the same to our Nikon D2x, it doesn't show image unless you go through the setup menu to turn it on or just press the image preview button on upper right. It's a button with little square with a triangle looking upside right inside. Hope it helps.

The button is in the upper left on the back of the body. The one on the original D1 looked like a TV screen shape:
