I am also very happy with the announcement because I was really serious about buying a D1X if this was not happening. The only question that is now coming up is, is it wise or should we wait for the complete comparison of the CCD chips against the Foveon chip. If you read the specs of this chip, you can see some big future coming and if you look at the quality of the pictures (DPREVIEW / FOVEON.ORG) it looks promising. I know that in this digital world waiting is causing waiting because new products will be released and at the end of the day you will not buy. (good plan if you want to save money)
Let me know what you think maybe we can work closer to see who will get the best rates.

If the reports are correct that Sigma has a two year exclusive with the Foveon chip in their SLRs, I personally write off Foveon as an option. You'd have to buy only Sigma lenses with their SA mount. Even if the chip lives up to the early hyperbole and you decided to buy a Sigma system, in a couple of years the advantage would evaporate and you'd be stuck with lenses that have poor resale and not many buyers for the SA mount.
Aside from that, it makes sense to wait until the prices are pulled down by all the new DSLR options. I may even get a used one as the upgrade fever hits the big spenders...
