Today I went out on a fun shoot with my D1h and checked the battery level before going. It indicated the battery was full although I hadn't used the camera for about 4 days and didn't recharge it after the last use. Got to where I was going, took 6 shots and it died. Battery level said empty. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'd hate to have to rely on an untrustworthy battery indicator. Just wondering if this is a common problem. I've only had this camera for a month and this is the first time it disappointed me.
As far as recharging goes, I've followd the instructions in the manual and drained the battery completely before recharging. I have yet to hit the 'refresh' button for a partial charge. I'll keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll replace the battery. I didn't get the upgrade. I've only had the camera for a month and I don't know if it needs to be sent in or not. How would I find out about that?
The battery indicator is not really all that useful. Mine says full for a long time. When it goes to half I know I have only about 20-40 pictures left. Your situation sounds extreme. Was it cold outside? This can really drop the output from a battery. Unless I'm only going to take a few photos, I always recharge the battery fully before taking it out. I have a second battery as well.
i don't really depend on it too accurately...my d1x, says 1/2 then turn it off and back on...its full again....maybe the firmware might help...not sure....but don't want to send it away and have no camera for now...wonder what is the turnaround?
