I'm in the market for a D1x, I checked on B&H, Adorama, Ect.. and the price is about $4600.00 USD, then I went to Yahoo.com in the classifieds seccion and I found it as cheap as $1200.00 and no more than $2000.00 Does anybody know why such a big difference? Thank you.
Fraud. There are more and more reported cases of these cameras being offered online and then turning out to be a scam. Ebay has become more careful and is learning what to watch for. I do not know what methods Yahoo uses to police their classifieds. Just remember: "If it sounds too good to be true..." Caveat Emptor

This price may drop in a few months when the Kodak 14n comes out. Also, Nikon may announce their D1x/h replacement camera(s) early in 2003, so this may affect the price also. So if you're willing to wait, the new price will drop.

On the used market, a good condition D1x is going for around $3400. KEH is selling used D1x's for about $4000, but there is some mark-up there, since KEH has to make some money too. There are a lot of scammers out there, but some legit sellers also. If you see a price below $3000, it's almost assuredly a scam.
Don't, buy a D1x or D100 for anything way cheaper than you think.... if it sounds too good to be true, it is. The new nikon/kodak hybrid DSLR will sell on the street for $4000, mid november/december. I would definitely wait cause the D1x's will drop, drop hard. I'm lucky to be using one at work we bought a year ago for $4499. Here's a funny thought, in 1995 a buddy of mine bought a nikon/kodak dcs 200, built around a nikon n8008s, a whopping 1.5 mpixel ccd, gave a halway decent 4.5 meg file, connected throgh scsi.... $9999.99. These sell on ebay now for $300-$600. It's planned obsolesense. Wait til jan or feb, by then the masses will be amazed by the 11-14mpxl cameras, and nikon will start dropping some prices.
Expect to pay $3200 and up for a good used D1X. I just bought a second one from Cord Camera in Ohio. $3400 for a 10 month old camera, mint. Don't get sucked in by low prices. eBay has some quality sellers. I like the ones that take credit cards. Postal orders are good, but why run after someone who has cashed the money order and not shipped the camera. Look for a dealer or a professional photogapher who is selling the camera. You will get a good deal and a fine camera.
