I'm just not happy about having to send my new D100 to Louisville in order to get the firmware upgraded. For those of you who have already done this (or are in the process of...), how's the experience? How long is it taking? Any suggestions to minimize the pain?
I just dropped mine off today at the Mellville HQ after giving Customer Support a full report of how pissed I am that we can't download it and do it ourselves.
They were not very helpful on the phone. When I asked why we can't download they said that was just the policy and until more people complain that is the way it will stay.
They guys at the drop-off were frustrated also and said it as been a headache dealing with all the returns.
I've only had the camera a month or so and returning it was not what I had in mind when I laid out 2K. I'm on Mac and the new version enables remote camera operation from the computer etc... That and I miss my wife. Otherwise I probably would not do it.
I sent my D100 to Louisville last Wednesday morning, October 23, via UPS next-day air. It was marked as received at 10:35a on the 24th and shipped back to me at 11:28a the same day. I got it back today, the 29th.
Overall it wasn't much of a pain. I just shot a lot of film last week instead. If you depend on having a digital camera and don't have a spare, you may want to look into renting something. You'll probably be looking at a wait between one and two weeks, depending on how you ship it to them.
There currently doesn't seem to be much of a lag once they have the camera, though that may change when the d1x upgrade floodgates open.
I (very reluctantly) sent my D100 to Louiseville KY last Friday (11/25/02). It was received yesterday (11/29/02) at 11:05 AM. It was listed by Nikon as shipped back on the same day. UPS tracking said it was received by them at 12:58 PM yesterday and I should have it on Thursday (11/31/02). 7 days, not too bad.
They had it less than three hours total (including unpacking and repacking). It can't be that much work.
I'm wondering if the upgrade to 2.0 is worth the hassle? I have 1.1 now. Not really interested in sending in the camera every time a new upgrade comes out which seems to be more frequent than not. Any advice would be welcome
