I'll wait until Adorama or B&H posts a price with pre-order information before I cheer or lament the price of the D2x... That's usually a reliable indicator that pricing has been established. I think these guys are out to make $$ on people who will pay anything to be "first in line". Their advertised price for the D2H is much higher than the current MAP of $1999. Their other prices seem to be more or less in line with what else is out there-- but what about US warranty?
just my 2 cents but these guys are in brooklyn and all those guys are shady. take it from a lifelong new yorker wait for the guys with good reputations to get them in stock. 5 grand is to much to gamble with.
Got to be non-USA models. If they really really had them, they would be featuring them for shipment next week on the front of their website not the last page of the Nikon camera list. They would love to tie up your money and sell you extra's like a battery and charger. Given the information I have received from legitimate stores, shipment into the USA and to dealers should be mid to late January. Hopefully we will have a price before then. I have placed my name on 2 list!!!!
On Thursday (12/16) I spoke with my local Photo Dealer. He said that he expects the D2X to arrive in January (holding my breath on that) and that it will be priced at $4,999.95 (breathless, but I have a deposit.
As to my 6 month old D2H, I may just keep it rather than trade it for about $1,000 before the next price changes or announcement of a D2H Turbo or D200.
Early in this month, my local dealer said D2X will come by the end of December. Few days ago he called and said, it delayed, till January or maybe February. I'm really not surprised. It's Nikon's style.
I've played with 1Ds mkII, about a week ago at it's launching here in Jakarta. Very nice camera, but again, I'll wait for D2X. I still love Nikon, their glasses, and (the slow) Nikon Capture

I talked to my guy at Henrys here in Canada on the weekend, who informed me $6249 CDN. He said he didn't think it was a firm date, but that their computer shows Jan 5th as the shipping date. Henrys is a pretty large retailer here in Canada, so they may be in the "know" - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I won't even hint at wom I was told this by and we'll have to see if it rings true. I was told this weekend that the D2X will be priced at a maximimum of $3,800 in the US in a direct attempt to regain market share from Canon of proffesional level cameras.
I guess we'll have to see if my source is correct, but let me say that it was a "direct" source.
I've watched this debate about the US price of the D2X go on for a while now.
As pricing seems to be well known in Europe - eg in the UK at £3,500 -is it possible Nikon are holding off announcing a US price on account of the dollar moving adversely against other world currencies at the moment. If you look at the $ vs the Yen and the Euro vs the Yen, if I was Nikon I'd want to hold off fixing something in $ until the last possible moment too!
I'm certainly not "in the know", but two different Nikon reps have stated in my presence that the D2X price will "pleasantly surprise people". This was stated each time when people were talking about rumored prices in the $4900 range. I really do believe that the D2X will sell in the U.S. for closer to $4k than $5k. It makes a lot of sense from a corporate point of view. To understand how well Canon is doing, visit some nature photography discussion sites. Canon users totally outnumber Nikon users. To have a chance at recapturing a lot of the Canon users, the latest Nikon digital pro camera will need to sell at a price that makes Canon users wince!
Why do you want to use a "bulk product"? See it like Douglas Adams - he always said: Only 5 per cent of Computer users are MAC users. but remember: we are the top 5 per cent! Quality is better instead of quantity.
