Ordered one in my little Dutch village, help keeping the shop alive and be assured of nearby service. Price unknown, but if unreasonable I may cancel (until now I never had to cancel any order, which is why they allow me to I guess).
On the list without a deposit and can cancell anytime.
Suprisingly, I want the camera for the 2x multiplier.
I will either be shooting high JPEG or medium depending upon the usage but really do not want more than a 2 megabyte file because I shoot thousands every week. The only time I will shoot NEFs (raw) is for a friends wedding and only because of being able to manipulate the white ballance and other settings, not to get a huge file or higher resolution as I do not need them.
It's likely that I will purchase a D2X. But I'm not one to order an product before a price is announced or it has not been tested by an independent source. The more pre-orders there are before the price is announced, the more likely the price will be higher than it would be with fewer pre-orders.
It is nice that some of you are being rewarded with promises of heavy discounts. I've spend about $25+k this year from one retailer and they are not offering me any advanced incentives to order now. I must be shopping at the wrong places.
Ordered my first D2X the day it was announced from Nikon Switzerland. We have an NPS account with them - they take good care of their customers. We'll see how this one works out and then probably take some more. There's an old aviation saying that you "should never fly the A version of any airplane" - hope this doesn't carry over to modern Japanese camera wizadry.

The D1, D1/H, D1/X, D2/H, were all nonsense cameras why should Nikon change that now, the only camera I did not have was then D1/H never had aproblem with any of these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!
Noticed today for Canadian Nikonians that Henrys in Toronto have posted a price of CDN $6999.00 for the camera. Will be interesting to see if this goes down as we get closer to the release date. As of todays rates for conversion, this amounts to about USD $5584.00. Scott_G
6999CAD can't be right, it's almost higher than Nikon's list price in Japan if converted into Yen.
At least cut 15% off that ... actually, what I heard from the retail stores in Japan is much lower than that but I'm not gonna say it now. I shoot both Canon and Nikon, if the D2X is higher than 5 grand US, I'll go for the 1Ds2 without second thought - which I can also get a substantial discount as well.
