Now that Canon is going to introduce a 11 Mpx full frame I was curious to see if there would be any rumors about a Nikon equivalent.
I just sent the key words "nikon 11 mpx digital" through a search engine and it dug out a Norwegian digitalcamera page. I do not know if it is just a rumor or the real deal:
Looks like a D2X and D2H with the D2X having 10.6 Mpx (4024x2648). If the specs about the CCD turn out to be accurate (23.7x 15.6 mm) then it would not be a fullframe CCD. This could be a major setback for Nikon. Nikon might have to display a "fullframe D series" in a glass box at the Photokina and work overtime to get it done.
Or maybe I am totally wrong with my humble Norwegian language skills (= zero) Any Norwegian Nikonians out here?
Have a nice day

I put the page through an on-line translator - here's what I got:
Canons EOS 1Ds am not getting govern market alone. Nikons D1X and D1H am stepped edged at date, and new models shall almost introduce. We have retrieved rumour- specifications.
It is the a little as am saw absorbing as rumours about coming cameras. Of which Nikon D2 becomes as rumours promises, getting Canon EOS 1Ds hard-nosed competition
It is the expected that Nikon D2 shall introduce in dates back to versions; Nikon D2X and Nikon D2H.
Nikon D2X shall apparently a few 4024x2648 piksler, thats. entire 10.6 Megapiksler. This am approximately on the same level as Canon EOS 1Ds make the. Camera able also take out pictures along with 3008x1960 piksler, thats. approximately 6 Megapikser. Lowest decay becomes 2000x1312 piksler, in underkant at 3 Megapiksler.
CCD- chip am not becoming as at EOS 1Ds fullframe, thats. equal bumper as analog movie. It is the expected that chip becomes 23.7x 15.6 mm. bumper, so that they am nødt at to buy extreme vidvinkler for to a few acceptable vidvinkel at daily use.
Camera do be about certainly a few sensibility matching 125-800 ISO.
Camera make the pace matching Canon EOS 1Ds, along with 3 pictures per second. Facts do be about be feel feasible to get 12 pictures sequentially at this course in JPEG- module, and 9 pictures sequentially in 9 RAW- module.
Nikon D2H taking over for today's D1H. This becomes a camera corrected against sportsfotografer and other as need extreme capacity. Camera becomes equipped a bildebrikke at 4024x1325 piksler, thats. 5.47 Megapiksler. Bildebrikken getting same size as at Nikon D2X.
Pictures shall however interpolate at 3008x1960 piksler, thats. 5.89 Megapiksler.
Camera shall be able get 5 pictures in the second, and in JPEG- module shall they be able get 40 pictures sequentially a prior the buffer am full of. IN RAW- module shall they however only be able get 9 pictures sequentially a prior the buffer am full of.
Err, "extreme vidvinkler"?

Extreme vidvinkler = extreme wideangles.
This is a very popular lens choise in Norway where the landscape is beautiful and nearly as endless as its off shore oilfields...
Am extremely surprised by the fluency everything else being equal of this machine translation.
PS: the surname of the author phonetically equals frankincense. Could be a coincidence of course.

Most wildlife photographers would consider sacrificing a toe over losing the 1.5x focal length multiplier. While it's a disadvantage at the wide end, the multiplier is a HUGE plus when shooting telephoto.

the 1.5x multiplier 'problem' is really quite simple. the ccd is smaller than a regular frame of film so when you take a picture, the ccd only registers a portion in the middle of the frame that makes the image appear to be zoomed in 1.5x. take a regular picture and crop out the sides and you'll get the same effect! in this case, with the new fullframed (or nearly) CCDs that are about 11 MegaPix, if you wanted the same effect, just take your pic, crop out the sides and you still get your 6ish MegaPix 1.5x multiplier. so by making it full framed, they haven't lost anything. it just gives you the sides of the picture back. allowing your wideangle glass to be used still. so don't be chopping off any toes.
Interestingly, there's could be a point to increasing resolution of these things still further. with 11-ish Megapix res you could print magazine quality in easily greater than a3 range. but imagine... if you had twice that or even more. you could take wideangle shots of whole scenes and do major cropping and still have excellent resolution for A4 prints! You might never need a telephoto lens again! except that the depth compression and depth of field effects would be a bit limited. but still it would greatly increase your choices. for somebody who wants to travel light for travelling for instance.. you can reduce the number of lenses you bring.
