Sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. I suppose I could imagine where it could be possible for more dust to enter a zoom lens than a prime but I would have to see persuasive proof of that; but to say that more dust can then get to the CCD is a bit much.
It seems to me to be another case of the old prime lens bigots finding one more thing to attack about zoom lenses. i see a lot of bandwidth devoted to prime lens advocates screaming about low quality zooms - of which there are, no doubt, some. Interestingly, I have had the opportunity to work with several respected and talented professionals in the past two years and they ALL shoot almost exclusively with various zooms.
There, I have been wanting to let loose with that rant for some time .
just something to think about i guess...bottom line i'm not getting rid of my zoom lenses...and kinda shame that you spend X thousand on a pro dslr body and have to worry about dust...perhaps the d2 cures this?
Where on earth did the idea to stop using zoom lenses with the D1X come from? I must have missed the post. Please tell me where that post is.
Now, if someone thinks the venting would allow more dust to infiltrate, it would be pretty easy to check, right? Make sure you start with ZERO dust, then take 50 shots with a fixed lens, check results; start with ZERO dust again, take 50 shots using the zoom varying the mm., check & compare. I think I'll try that.
I'm just being curious here, mrdinh. You have posted many, many questions in this forum, and at least one other forum (with the exact same wording) on the dust issue. Maybe you can explain to me and the rest of the Nikonians your exact procedure. Do you swab, vacuum or blow? Do you just ignore it? Do you use the healing brush? Do you not remove the lens at all? You must have received tons of answers and I am just curious to know which method you have chosen, and, most importantly, what are your results?
nicholas, i'm just trying to get peoples exp before i actually clean my ccd...is that not ok?...you seemed kinda pissed off or something not sure...isn't that what these forums are for?...nothing against you ok...but you should take it easy...my methods are just using the hand held blower....then with the stubborn specs i used the sensor swabs and eclipse soln...thats all...but it doesn't hurt to learn other methods...
I don't know where you get the idea I'm upset. When someone says: "I'm not going to throw my zooms out", (if you reread your prior post), all I was trying to determine is: WHO TOLD YOU NOT TO SHOOT ZOOMS WITH THE D1X? That's all I was asking. Please reread my post.
I'm very, very sorry you took offence. You just told me how you took care of your CCD and that's all I was asking. You're reading into my post a whole emotion that IS NOT THERE. I was just curious, that's all. You don't have to be so paranoid.
mrdinh, Absolutely! Most of us are here to learn and to share what we know. If we can't talk, communicate our qualms and clear up misunderstandings, then we might as well be living in Iraq. Have a great week. Nicholas
