Nikon D1X White balance questions
I have taken the plunge and a D1X and associated goodies is on it's way to me. Should be here in a couple of days and I am really looking forward to my first digital experience.
I have been reading all I can on the D1X including Moose Petersens book. He seems fairly adamant that the Auto white balace setting is useless and shoots 95% of his shots at the Cloudy setting warmed up to -3. He also uses an 81A filter for all his shots.
What is the experience of fellow Nikonians on this subject? What are your favourite settings and how and when do you change them?
Any other setting or shooting advice would be appreciated

I tend to concur with Moose. I use the cloudy -3 almost all the time. I also shoot RAW mode all the time so I can readily, without data loss, make any necessary adjustments in either Bibble or Nikon Capture.
In my limited experience I have found that you can't go wrong with the recommendations in Moose's book.

If you shoot in RAW mode then you can change the white balance after the event when you process your images.
I've always used the appropriate preset for the lighting conditions, usually meaning either Direct Sunlight, Overcast or Flash.
