I am currently using F100 as my main body. I'm thinking of getting a Nikon SLR Digital. I just like to know from the current owners of the D1 serries and also the D100 if the shutter release on these cameras works and feels the same as the F100 or any decent SLR's. I'm not sure if I word it right. What I am trying to find out if in the F100, as you press the shutter it will shot right away and not like in some digital that I used like the Olympus E-10 and CoolPix 990, when you press the shutter, takes few seconds before you actually make the shot.
Please share you experience on this an your advise is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I went from the F100 to the D1X and to me the shutter release is every bit as fast though I know that it isn't. I read that there is a shutter lag in the D1X of .053 sec. I can't detect it but there you have it. 53 milliseconds is certainly not important to me .

I have a F100, coolpix 800 and a D100. On the coolpix the shutter lag is very long and irritating. Also, the delay between shots (as the camera writes to flash card)is also very long- almost 20- 25 sec for TIFFs. The D1/D100 cameras are very similar to film bodies in this respect. I find the shutter lag to be almost imperceptible. The D100 writes to flash card quite fast as well- a 9.5 MB RAW file is written in under 10 seconds with a buffer to accomodate 4 shots.
With respect to the concerns you mention above, you won't be disappointed with a digital SLR.

Check out the reviews at:
They are extremely long reviews but they have developed a way of measuring shutter lag, write times in all mode, etc, etc. Lot's of really good stuff. Plus since they've reviewed all the Nikon D SLRs and used the same test so you can compare results directly.
I haven't read it yet but they also have a review of the Fuji S2.
Hope that helps,

I like to thank everyone who shared their knowledge and expeience with the D1 Series & the D100. If my budget allows, I will go for the D1X, but if not, D100 should be enough for what I do at this point. I am just starting with Weddings and some clients are looking for an ALL DIGITAL coverage.
Appreciate your responses.
