Perhaps this is a silly rant, but.... over the past few months I have been saving towards a goal of going digital with my photography. For years now I have been pleased with my Nikon camera system, love the features, the quality, ect. Now looking into the Digital SLR realm I am a bit amazed to find Nikon doesn't seem to be stepping up. As I'm sure some of you are aware, Canon just released a digital rebel of which has a 6.3 effective mega pixel, and a handy consumer price around a 1,000 US bucks! Prior to that, Canon released their EOS 10D, which I must say is very impressive, and a healthy contender against the D100.

While I am not a professional photographer, I do want to get the best possible image quality and versatility in my camera purchase. Being a true Nikonian, I want to stay with Nikon, if for no other reason than to keep the lenses I have invested in. But now I see that the D2h is soon to hit the market. Less effective mega pixels than the D100 or any of the Canon bread, and a higher price! Someone please tell me that Nikon has an ace up their sleeve, and we will soon see a digital SLR geared for those of us blue collar guys.

Like so many other amature photographers, I don't shoot just sports and action. Which is what the D2H seems geared for. My photos may never grace the front page of the newspaper, but they will be blown up into posters for my kids, hung on the walls of my office, or filed in an album for years of enjoyment. Am I alone in the thought that Nikon doesn't seem to be considering "the little guy"? Just a thought...
