Hello, Why should I buy D1X over D100 for nature photography (wildlife, landscape, macro)? What are the real practical advanteges? Now I’m using F80 + 24 2.8D, 50 1.8, 105 micro 2.8D, 300/4, 80DX. I’m going to go digital. Regards, /Brunon
The real advantages of the D1X is focus speed, frame rate, buffer size, and speed clearing the buffer. These are of no particular advantage for landscape work but are potentially very valuable for wildlife photography.
Additionally, the D1X has the F5 type color metering system and a very solid, robust build. Of course the D1X cost is double that of the D100.
First off, there are a zillion D1x vs D100 threads. Use the search function to find them.
Second, the D1x advantages may not be useful for your applications. Off the top of my head, the D1x advantages are: - faster AF module, stronger AF motor - color matrix meter - faster flash sync - bigger buffer - can meter with older manual lenses - more robust body
The D100 advantages are: - slightly higher resolution - better battery life - smaller, lighter - lower cost
I'm sure I forgot some issues above. Again, use the search function to dig up the numerous old threads on the topic. Personally, I bought the D1x because I needed the faster AF. Also consider the Fuji S2.
Got any non-cpu lenses that you value?. Then remember this: they do *not* meter couple with the D100, but do with the D1 series. Buying a D1 may have an interesting incentive if you got a lot of $$$ in non-cpu glass.
