HELP QUICK!!!! Need lens advice - 80-200mm C?????
I use a nikon camera and lens, and am trying to buy my father a system as well. However, I have come across a lens I can find no info on. It's an autofocus zoom nikkor-c 1:4.5 80-200mm. If anyone knows anything about this lens I would appreciate it. I could only find nikkor-d.
Thanx a million!

Sounds like it might have been a typo - and is actually refering to the 80-200 D lens which entirely plastic (a great deal though - still a very good lens!)

Nikon's first 80-200 zoom lens was the f4.5 MANUAL FOCUS model. Your question says autofocus... are you certain? I have many books about Nikon gear, and a good hands-on experience with most of the MF range from the AI / AIS days. I never heard of the lens you describe being autofocus.
If it is the MF f4.5 80-200 zoom, it is the lens that made Nikon famous in the zoom world... when zooms had little to no respect. In the mid 1980's it was upgraded to f4.0, but many feel it suffered in quality and kept the f4.5 model. It might seem dated today, but is still very good.
Re-read the lens. If it is autofocus... I never heard of it.

I'm also pretty sure you have the manual lens. I recently snapped up an 80-200 f-4 zoom, and it's an impressive piece of glass. Apparently the slightly older f-4.5 version was a tad better optically. Both these lenses perform well wide open and can easily compete with prime lenses in image quality.
If you use this lens regularly, you'll soon be amazed how much muscle you'll develop from lugging it around!
