as the new tamron xr28-200 is out for a while now, could you please give your opinion on (and comparison pictures!):
i'm going to order a 2nd body very soon (N80), i actually have a N70 - sigma heavy 28-70 2.8 / nikon 50 1.8 / nikon 70-300.
i'd like to buy a light , all-purposes zoom primary to carry standalone, or to give it to my wife on hollidays...
i'm interested by the macro functions, and we often enlare pictures to 11 - 18.
tamron 28-200 or nikon 28-105 ?
(price are quite the same in kits i can get)
(if nikon, do i have to buy special slim polarizer filter <> vignetting ?)
by the way, dear JRP and Scott, what about the lens buying guide
Only an idiot never changes his mind...

I have a Tamron 28-200XR which I'm very pleased with. At 28mm it is no longer than my old 28-80 Nikkor, though it grows quite a lot by 200mm. The build quality is really good. Although light, it feels very solid. Optical quality is likewise very good.
I don't believe you can truly tell the quality of a lens by looking at a jpg on a computer screen, but here's a sample...the original chrome is sharp!
