Need reviews for Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ED zoom
I'm in the market for a long telephoto lens like a 300mm f/2.8 or f/4 ED but my budget says no I can't. I am seriously looking at the 70-300mm ED zoom for an alternative. Although I'm an amateur of about 5 years I am serious about photography and need something that will give me good results. Would this be a good lens for the money. I mostly shoot nature and right now I use a series E 135mm with a TC201 behind it for that application. I must add that I just bought a new F-80 two days ago and is my first auto focus experience. Any input on this lens would be great.

I'm very pleased with my 70-300 ED. It's light, performs really well optically, and the zoom action has good feel. You can't tell much from a low res web image about sharpness, but here's a link to an action image I shot with the 70-300 last week...
If I buy bigger, faster glass in the future, I'll still hang onto this lens which is a great size and weight for travel. It balances well with the F80, too, and is an excellent buy.
