I'm still fairly new here (new N80 owner), so forgive me if this has been covered. Does anyone else have problems switching from Macro mode to Normal mode on the 28-105 Nikkor?
It seems occasionally, the switch does not easily slide, and I need to refocus the lens before it will switch back to Normal mode. I'm not positive, but this seems to happen after incompletely focusing the lens and not taking a photo.

The focal length must be set to the 50-105 mm range (denoted by an orage bar) before you can switch from normal to macro. To go from macro to normal, the focus must be set to > 0.5 m. You may encounter difficulty in switching from normal to macro if the lens is racked out against the 0.5 m limit in normal mode. In this case, simply readjust the focus to something above 0.5 m. That's all there is to it.

As soon as I opened the box with the gorgeous 28-105mm Nikkor Zoom Macro lens I mounted it on a F100 and began to play with it. I had exactly the same experience of discomfort and bewilderment you mentioned until I read (twice) the manual of the lens.
Just follow RRowlett recipe to avoid any more problems.
