the parents where away, so I went out and got a new lens
I just got the 28-105 Nikkor. I've been wanting to try it for awhile, and with the parents / sponsors out of town there was no one be the voice of reason. I've heard its a great daily lens, but any thoughts on the macro portion, or is that just a toy

I use the macro capabilities on mine. While a true macro lens might be better, I think it is a great feature and not a useless one. It helps reduce the amount of lenses I need to buy/carry (now that the parents/sponsors are back).

I just recently used the macro feature on mine for a couple of rolls of film and though it may not be true macro, it's close focusing abilities are enough to fill the frame with relatively small flowers, which is all I need. Be sure to play around with engaging and disengaging the macro switch for awhile in the comfort of your own home to figure out how it works. It is kind of odd, but not nearly as much of a pain as some make it out to be (if you have read the reviews on photoreview.com).
