Very nice shot. Congratulations on your kids and the purchase. Glad that you have now experienced the difference between a good pro prime and a consumer zoom. Now you can understand us the old hands raving. For the sake of new photographers. Could you take a couple of shots of the same subject(s) using both lenses at the same f/stop and post them? The scanner you have can clearly show the differences. Hi yes, sure I will do the test soon - will be interestning, in fact I will run the 85/1.8 & 24-85 set for 85 along with my 80-200, set for 85. Then I will scan each with the higest DPI, then make a selection from the middle and the corner and publish them here. What do you think about this evaluation? Best regards Johan
Johan, can I make some recommendations about lens testings? Use, as a subject, a brick wall on a bright sunny day with the sun directly overhead so the bricks have some overhead directional lighting. Or if you do it indoors get some newspaper with the stockmarket quotes on it. Also, make sure you use a level to get the camera perfectly parallel to the wall or paper. If you have mirror lockup use it. Employ the self timer to take the images. Hope this helps. Looking forward to findings.
Great photo! Th 85mm 1.8 is indeed one of Nikon's best. In fact, I didn't think about this until I read your post, but after upgradeing my entire system over the past year I just realized my 85mm is the only thing left in my bag that was there a year ago! Must say something about this lens! One question for you, what kind of film was your picture taken with?
Hi I used Kodak Elitechrome ExtraColor 100. I have found that film to be good and cheap. But, I do think that the Fuji Provia 100 is the better one when it comes down to subject with high contrast. Best regards Johan
The 85mm 1.8 is the first of my primes in the Nikon range - arrived in the post last week. (I am slowly coming over from a Pentax setup). And what a good start to nikkor primes it is! I have been flat out, so have only put one roll through to see how it goes. I was shocked at just what a difference a lense like this makes. Am looking forward to years of good happy snaps with this one.
Johan, I am looking forward to that comparison. That was a good shot there...
