Hong Kong, Singapore lens shopping
I shall be in Singapore for one day, and Hong Kong for several days in late December,2001. When I last visited both cities I found photographic equipment more costly(and with no USA waranty)than from major NYC dealers, and purchased nothing. Do any Nikonians know if circumstances have improved as to prices(warranty conditions unchanged)? If so, would appreciate specific referrals to better dealers(names, addresses, e-mail address for advance query)in HK,SG. Many thanks.

Hi, here in Malaysia, customers (locals and visitors) are expected to haggle the price so the displayed prices are usually the recommended list price. Expect at least a 10%,5% price reduction or discount for the actual price to be paid. Say something displayed is listed as $100, minus 10% from that $100 then it is $90, then minus another 5% from the $90 so the final price is actually around $85.
There is no stopping you from haggling further, with the final 'threat' of leaving the store without buying anything. Don't be surprised if the shopkeeper finally gives in to your interpretation of a 'fair price', and calling you back in
By the way, the 10%, 5% rule applies to Nikon, whom many shopkeepers whispered to me.
