extensions tubes on 50mm 1.8 nikkor
Hi, I want to know the disadvantages of using extension tubes with 50mm lens which is a sharp lens, for close up photography. I can't afford a micro lens right now. Are there any other good, cheap alternatives. Thanks in advance. Best wishes to fellow Nikonians on World Photography Day. By the way I am proud of my birth., i was born to-day, some decades back

It works great. There are no quality disadvantages, maybe personal preference disadvantages. Buy a set of Kenko AF tubes, about 120USD, as I recall, and use the 20mm+36mm to get 1:1 magnification. Working distance is several inches, as opposed to the few cm's that you get with more exotic methods. You lose about a stop of light. Of course, you can only focus at macro distances, unlike a true macro lens, which is continuous from closeup to infinity. Best of all, it's a compact and lightweight setup.---scott
I just looked at your profile. With the N70, you probably don't need AF tubes.
