I've been buying a lot of used Nikon equipment lately and have a question. I've collected a number of 50mm AF f1.8 lenses. There seem to be 2 basic versions... an older one (characterized by a clear window that you look thru to see the focusing distance) and a new one (no clear window, more compact lens).
Anyone have any opinions on the superiority/inferiority of either of these?
Exactly. The first one was produced from 1986 (at the time of the introduction of the N2020) to 1989; the second from 1989 'till today. They both share the same glass and optical formula. Changes were external and cosmetic only. Below the newest version:
