Thanks, sixmileman. I was unaware of the DxOMark website. Excellent information.
The 18-140 is an upgrade from the older model 18-135. DxOMark says that there is a definite improvement but for most neophytes (like me) not worth the additional $120 (now $600 vs. $480).
I have run across a used 18-135 (purportedly in very good condition) from a well rated camera store. It has a $195 price tag. Seems like a good deal to me since I am really at this point not taking a huge number of pix. As my profile shows, i have a Nikkor 55-300 lens which I bought to capture birds here in South Florida and a Nikkor 18-55 lens. Do you think I really need the 18-135? It seems to me to make some sense as it would eliminate a lot of lens changing. What does everybody think?
I purchased this with my D7100, for $300 off when they had the September lens discount (lens purchased with body). It is light, sharp and a great upgrade to the kit lens. At this price, it was a no brainer to pick it up instead of the cheap kit lens.
