Hi, everybody!

I know where to look for the hard-to-see lens serial numbers on all my other Nikkor lenses, but I can't find the S/N on this lens that I just bought used today. I looked everywhere...it's invisible to MY eyes!

I wanted to know whether the first digit is a "3" or a "4", so I could get an idea how old this lens is.

According to Roland Vink's data of reported owners' lenses, the S/N started at 3300001 in Oct '93 and ran thru to near 3503XXX in 2005.

The later D-series lenses went from 4000001 in 2005, to 4009440 in Jan, 2006.

Then, the AFS VR version was introduced, and continues to this day.

Anybody know why Nikon hides the serial numbers on the Nikkor lenses?

Thanks in advance for any helpful hints! Aloha!!
