17-35mm f2.8 compared with 28mm f1.8
Hi: Does anyone have any experience with the 17-35mm F2.8 compared with the 28mm F1.8? I would like a lens for photojournalism style images and for travel images on a D800E. The 28mm is a prime, is faster, is lighter, and is in the middle of the 17-35mm range. The 17-35 though is very well regarded.
I would value anyone's experience. Thanks!

I have both, with the 28 1.8 being relatively new to the bag. If I have a choice, I shoot with the 28, as I think it has less distortion at 28 than the 17-35 and has really nice color. It is very light compared to the 17-35 as well. I use the 17-35 when I need to have the flexibility of the zoom. I've become a big fan of the 28 on my D800e and D3s. I take photos of trains, just so you know what the primary use is.
