The standard Kit-lens AF zoom 35-70mm 3.3/4.5 was in production from september 1986 till october 1989, when a new version of this lens was launched, with minor non-optical changes. It was finally discontinued in 1996, and the last 5xxx series-numbers were produced in Thailand.

It's rather a cheap lens, regarded by some being one of the worst Nikon-products. But is that true?

I think it's still a very usefull lens, performing good on a DX-body but some remarkable results also on FX, especially towards the end of the zoom at 70mm. What are the views of the Nikonians here?

Some results I shot this morning:

70mm on a DX (d80) = 105mm f/9 1/320
