When I photograph stars at night, I normally set the lens to infinity and then put it into manual focus mode. On my 24-70, I can check it on a sunny day and see it likes to focus for infinity just a tad to the right of the center of the infinity symbol. My 14-24 wide angle lens focuses at infinity just to the right of center, too. My 24-70 just came back from Nikon Service, so I was checking it today. Everything was fine. Then I put the new 28-300 on the same body and did the same check. I focused on the distant hillside while in autofocus at 28mm. Instead of the lens showing it was focusing at infinity, it was reading something in the 50 meters range...way off infinity.

Is this normal on your 28-300?

Thanks in advance,
M. Jackson
