Could use some advice with what to check for on my 18-200. It focuses out to about 10' in the zoom range 18-50. After that auto focus does not work. Was using the lens on a D300s. I tried other lenses on the D300s and they worked fine. I also tried the lens on my D2H and X and same results. Clean the contacts? What should I use? Bad AF-S motor? What else should I try or look for? This is my wifes favorite lens so it'll go to Nikon Repair unless I can get it working again.
When in doubt, clean the contacts, even though I'm not optimistic that it'll help. I first use a blower and then an inexpensive microfiber cloth moistened with some isopropyl alcohol or Eclipse cleaning solution. I also make sure that each contact springs back into place normally.
I'd also try to very gently focus the lens manually. If you encounter any unexpected resistance stop and send the lens in for repair. Good luck!

Thanks for you comments and experience with this lens. Because it was a very good lens and the families favorite I'll send it off for repair. But before I do I want to try the eclipse and see what happens. Does the problem I'm experiencing sound like a motor problem or something eles?
