Just got back from a trip to coastal MA, I took the 14-24/2.8 and the Zeiss primes 35/2 and 100/2. The Nikon 14-24 performed as well as the Zeiss lenses. I agree with you that the 14-24/2.8 is by far the sharpest of all Nikon zooms.
I got my trinity last month and still learn how to handle them. Definitely they are much much faster than my cheap 17-250 Tamron but under clear sky some pictures are not that great better than the pictures taken by the Tamron. May be I am not familiar with them yet, got an exceptional Tamron, or Nikon lens issue?
at the end of the day, a bad photo (bad exposure, focus etc) is a bad photo regardless of glass. I've taken many, and I mean many, bad photos with my three lens. Where they shine is when the photo is perfect in regards to exposure and focus...then you really rock...crisp etc.
I got mine today! Unfortunately I can't try it yet since Nikon has my D600 for sensor cleaning I do a lot of long exposure photography so I am looking for filter mounting options and Fotodiox looks like the best option because they have NDs and CPLs solution.
My trinity now is more like 14-24, Sigma 35 1.4, Sigma 85 1,4. Not a conventional one but works for me
