I have a D7000 with the kit AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED.

I have been looking at the AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR to mostly replace the kit lens. I do prefer the Full Frame lenses over the DX ones, especially since the 18-105 is my only DX (have 4 older AI(-s), AF 50mm f/1.8D, and the 70-300), since most of the issues are on the outside parts, which are not being used.

Eventually, I plan to add a FX body to my collection (probably something like the D800; but that is a few years away).

Should I even consider doing the change, or save my money for a better lens, and continue to use the kit lens (which works fairly well)?
