I recently joint the Nikonians site, first I want to say hello to all the members en the makers off this site. May I also apologize for my bad knowledge of the English language.
Now my question,
Recently I both the new nikkor 24/85 after years of using prime lenses. Are there member who have experience with putting a filter on this lens.
-is there a problem with vignetting ?
-is there more flare ?
-do I need the B/W slim line filter ?
-what I put on, UV or skylight ?

good day, jean. i suggest you go to the "nikon product conference" and click on the thread "lens & filters stuff." i am sure you wil be able to find your answers in that thread, and more. fairly recent discussions were made on the points you raised. on a personal note, i myself likewise use a slim filter for my 17-35mm nikkor, i.e., hoya hmc super-slim. however, using slim filters do not necessarily guarantee non-flare since it will all depend on the angle of light/sun hitting your lens. care should still be taken when shooting with the light directly in front of your lens or at a proximate angle. lens hoods will help. otherwise, use your hand to deflect/shade the light. vignetting will definitely be a non-issue. note, however, that these slim filters do not have front threads and, hence, you will not be able to stack-up multiple filters on your lens (which you wouldn't want to do with a wide angle lens anyway!) nor use your nikkor lens cap. you would have to make do with the supplied lens cap which, if you're not careful, may fall-off and get lost. have a nice day
