I have received the all clear signal to get the 500mm VR lens. Now I need to order a replacement foot. Does anyone have any insight to the RRS vs. Kirk products? Seems to me I read some time ago that one or the other was a little short for proper balance and they needed to mount to a gimbal or sidekick with some of the foot hanging out of the clamp.
Are these replacement feet the same length? I have all RRS camera plates and lens replacement feet just because I started out that way. Currently using Wimberley screw type clamps on everything.
NatureDon, I use the Wimberley AP-554 foot on my 500mm f/4 lens. I have no problems mounting the lens on the sidekick accessory. Wimberley lists the foot's dimensions, as should RRS and Kirk. Hope this helps.
I am using the RRS foot on my 500 f4. The RRS foot is 4 inches long and the WH-200 clamp is 3 3/8 inches long. Thr RRS plate has plenty of length to accommodate DX vs FX bodies and any of the three Nikon TCs added as well.
