I'm about to take the plunge and buy this lens, before doing so I'd like to know if this lens is reliable mechanically. I know about the motor, which the seller had replaced a few ago. Any other issues?

I have 2 copies of the 28-70mm, the older one I purchased when it was introduced in 1999. Both have been 100% reliable to this day and neither has required service.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

I have one that I bought used about 4 years ago. Until I started shooting high school football it was my most used lens. Maybe 20,000 cycles. Never had any problem with it at all.
