I encounter many friends who think a 50mm lens used on a DX body magically becomes a portrait friendly 75mm lens. This misconception seems universal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a 50mm lens is a 50mm lens regardless if used on a DX body or a FX body. The only difference is Field of View. Any distortion created by getting close for a portrait shot would be the same regardless of camera body. Of course, the FX shot would have to be cropped to get the same Field of View.

Am I all wet, or do lens gremlins magically enter a lens mounted on a DX body and rearrange things to transform it into a longer focal length?
