any math wizards out there? I was wondering if anybody could help me with a formula to calculate the actual DOF for a lens at particular aperture, focal length and distance from the subject. I am mostly interested to use it for fast prime lenses, but I am not sure if the same formula could be applied to zooms as well.
I know it may be closely related to one of the topics below, so sorry if you consider it a redundancy.
This may be too simplisitic for this group, but I use an App on my smart phone. I think it's called Photocalc. You put in the focal length, f-stop and it gives you the information. Don't know how sensor size plays into this. Perhaps it only works on FX.
