The focus was way off so I had Nikon adjust it. In low light it is a great lens. But compared to some I dont think that once it is stopped down to f4 or 5.6 it is noticable sharper than my 24-70mm zoom f2.8 .
I do notice that in very low light wide open, focus may be off.The DOF is amazingly small for a wide angle.
It is a big heavy lens but if you need speed in a wide angle on a DX body its the only real choice.
I have also found this lens to be a great one with the D3s, D700, and now the D800E. I am including an image I took last year at Padre Island around 7:00 am with a tripod, 2-stop GND, and 24 mm f/1.4G @ f/5.6 and 1/400 sec. I am not a Pro but I find the tool most useful and it stays on my main camera most of the time. I will be taking it down to New Mexico and the 12th ANPAT in October.
