Since most of the kit lenses are now AFS VR or AFS VR-II, I think this one is going to be a pretty one-sided vote. I have an 18-55VR and that "overrides" the fact that I've got pre-AI, AI, AIS, AF, AFD and AFS/HSM lenses. This is particularly true since you've put the poll in the AF forum...

I wonder if the 80-400mm VR should be grouped with the AF-D lenses. It has more in common with the AF-D's than it does with the AF-S lenses. The latest technology being AF-S, VR II and N. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
I am somewhat disturbed by this survey. I have used vr, auto focus, in-lens motor, but my most advanced lenses are manual focus Zeiss lenses without any of the above "improvements". I always believed that you judge the performance of a lens by the IQ it is capable of producing.
Do you prefer a Corolla with automatic or a Porsche with manual transmission? Which one is more technologically advanced?

Right. An 18-55VR versus an 85/1.4 Zeiss? No contest. The Zeiss wins in quality, and it's possibly even a newer lens design. But it's not as technolically iterated as the VR lens (and maybe better off that way).

And that is one poll I never want to see asked on here.
