Congratulations on your new 14-24. My most recent auto focus lens was the AFS 500mm f/4 which I bought used but in perfect condition. About $5000 as I recall. I had been using the 200-400 f/4 VR lens on my D2x but when I moved up to the D700 (full frame) I needed a little more reach for birds.
>About a month ago I got the 85mm f/1.4D AF. Can't believe I >waited so long.color>
Congratulations! Enjoy the ride!!!!!!
I think my last lens was the 16-85mm VR. I bought it not long after it was released. I got it so that when I sold my D80 + 18-70mm kit to help fund my new D300, I'd still have a mid-range zoom.
Of course, then Nikon went and ruined my plans by releasing the D700.
So there is no D300 (yet), no D700 (double-yet), I still have the D80 + 18-70mm (my own fault for not getting my act together any sooner; but who cares, I can't afford the upgrade yet anyway). Meanwhile, I'm a fast prime junkie, and don't use the zooms I had very often, much less "need" a new one.
So the 16-85mm is sitting over in a corner wondering what it got shipped here for.
No new lenses for me since the D700 was released. It's D700-or-die, as far as I'm concerned. Except for the minor accessories which show up from time to time (okay, in somewhat of a steady stream, but hey, who's counting), I buy N-O-T-H-I-N-G until I've finished saving up for my monster camera.
Gotta go! Back to saving …

My most recent Nikkor purchase was an AF 135mm f/2D DC lens. When adding a D700 to my kmit, it was intended to get back somewhere close to the 85mm angle of view that I had on a D300, for low-light stage work
Having had both the 70-200 VR 2.8 and 80-400 VR in the past but had to let them go to finance a business venture, I have just bought new copies before the 1st Feb price rises kick in....so I am a happy bunny just itching to get out and use them both...
Last summer I got a 180/2.8 non-D in a trade from KEH. Pristine. I wanted the focal length, IQ and speed without the bulk of a 70/80-200. I'm very pleased and only miss a zoom a "little". Lightens the bag and still retains the high IQ.
Hey John, in an earlier post you made a comment about not being around and hope it is nothing that can't be fixed. I would certainly miss your input and insight, particularly on the older Nikkors.
50mm 1.4 G to make D3x look smaller than it really is. Seriously, very nice lens, and good portrait lens on D200 and D300 bodies. I still have my original beautifully made manual 50mm 1.4, but eyes now need autofocus.
Around June '08 70-200 VR and ~November '08 17-55 2.8. Both very satisfied with but wish my 17-55 would go up to 70... I love those 2 lenses - especially for stage and low light. Now looking at 200-400VR - but just looking. Thanks!
>What was your last or most recent Nikon/Nikkor auto focus >lens that you acquired? >
I bought a 200-400mm F4 from Grays of Westminster on the day before the prices were raised so I felt quite smug for a while. What a great lens; I haven't used it properly yet but am looking forward to a serious day-long session. I got the 70-200 last June and thought that was fantastic but the 200-400 seems even better!
I checked the B&H website Sunday morning and both the 24-70 & 70-200 VR are out of stock. It will be interesting to see what the prices will be once B&H gets them. I am glad I bit the bullet and got mine in late 2008.
I got a mint condition nikkor AF 35-135mm F3.5-4.5 zoom on ebay for $122. When I use to shot sprint cars my 2 most used lenses were a 105 or 135 for on track photos (sold them to buy chevelle parts). This lense should be good for walking arround the pits and out on the track. I just ordered a Hoya super HMC UV filter for it
The Nikon 500mm f/4 VR, last month. It took several months to work up the nerve, sell tons of photo, ham radio gear and what not, convince the wife and promise not to buy more stuff for a long time. But all worth it.
My wife (great woman) bought for me a 70-200 AFS 2.8 VR for Christmas. I sold my 80-200 to a friend; used some of the money to buy a TCII 1.7. I just shot my first pictures of an Eagle in flight with this set up. I need alot more practice but I am very happy with the combo
17-55 2.8 dx which should arrive this week!!! I am psyhed and now saving up for the 70-200 vr.....In wasting this cash I am definitely loking for a return on this investment! congrats of the new pruchase. It's a beast!
The 24-70mm f2.8, purchased Friday night Jan 30 from B&H, to beat the price increase. Not arrived yet, but looking forward to it. Plan to use as a sharper lens for people shots vs my 18-200mm. From reading above I'm glad I didn't wait until Saturday to order.
