I have recently bought the TC20E converter primarily to be used with my 8-200 afs lens. I am throwing around the idea of picking up the 300 F4 AFS. I would like to know if anyone has ever ventured out here around the 600 F8. Any idea what to expect?

Well, I do have a 600mm f/8, Sigma, catadioptric.
Bad contrast, making it look not too sharp even in the center of the negative.
Maybe that is why they built the AF-S 600mm f/4D ED IF,
it is even better than the combination of the AF-S 300mm f/2.8 with the TC20E, yielding a 600mm f/5.6
In the past I had some teleconverters and found out that they really are for emergencies, when you forgot to bring the lens you wanted to use, never a substitute for the real lens.
