Hello to all Nikonians,
does anybody know, whether Nikon in future will continue producing the AF-D 2,8/80-200mm lens (without the silent wave motor)? Do I have to hurry, if I want to buy one of these cheaper than the AF-S lenses?
With best wishes for the new year

Good question, but one I can't give a definate answer on. I would guess they would until the price of the AF-S version comes down. At least I would hope they would. If you shoot primarily landscapes like I do, the AF-S version is not required. If I was shooting sports, yes, it would be a good feature.
Nikon replaced the original D version of this lens with the push/pull ring and without the tripod collar because it was knocked in all reviews for the push/pull zoom/focus ring and not having the tripod collar, which was required due to the heavy lens (optics were always good). The current version without AF-S has always received great reviews on optics and operation.
