Just a guess (with NAS behind it) - since the MV-1 reader plugs in to the 10-point terminal, which I assume has not changed between these 4 cameras (F6, F5, F100, N90), will it work with the other cameras as well. It would serve as a much easier option than PhotoSecretary, RS-232 connections (which are hard to find on a laptop).
Interesting possibility. My first thought was that no, it wouldn't be compatible since Nikon didn't mention the existing bodies when it was announced. But with the scarcity of PhotoSecretary and the corresponding cables, along with the lack of a USB equivalent cable, this may well be in the offing. Truth is, Nikon hasn't said much about the MV-1 yet, so who knows? I can't rule it out at least, and there is circumstantial evidence that it just might work on other 10-pin bodies.
Well, I wonder if the other way around will also work, meaning will I be able to use my existing MC-33 to d/l data from F6 ?
It makes no reason to invest another $210 (+adapter/reader) when you already have a cable for that purpose...
I guess Photo Secretary is useless since it can't read .txt files so we need a new utility to do so and I bet it will show up very soon... (I hope so...) All is needed is an MS Excel plugin to read it directly. Perhaps Nikon thought of it (and of us...) and made it simple by allowing Excel open the file directly from the camera. Does anyone have any info on this?
And another issue, what about controlling F6 through a PC? changing CSM ? will this be possible? Are we going to see a new Photo Secretary version?
I just wonder why Nikon didn't combined both (data d/l + PC control) in the same product? why add so many accessories and pay so much... Go figure Nikon's head....
Bob, Even if it is capable of communicating with F5/F100/N90 and I can assume it is, the question is with what sw will you use it (mv-1) with F5/F100/N90? After all you need a kind of sw to do the function. Non of the above cameras has a copy/send function that you can activate from camera.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On the other hand, if I want to make use of my MC-33 with F6, Photo Secretary don't comply with F6. Do you really believe Nikon will issue a Photo Secretary update? I doubt it... Will Nikon issue a new Photo Secretary F6? I doubt it too... I do expect from young and creative small companies/individuals to issue an Excel plugin to be used with F6 or a full version of sw such as CC.
Nikon was very clever in how they did this. When the MV-1 initializes a CF card it creates directories with action scripts for the F100 and F5. All you need to do is copy one of these scripts to another folder on the card using your PC and then attach the reader to the camera. This allows you to turn recording on/off, set simple/detailed recording and set overwrite/stop on when the memory fills up. You do not need Photo Secretary.
