Hello everybody. I just signed in to this forum so sorry for any mistakes. I do have a problem with the viewfinder of my Nikon F5: 5 of the seven segments of the first digit of the frame counter are blank. The frame counter indication on the TOP LCD display works fine. I sent the camera to a repair center but it came back unrepaired. Does anyone have experienced a similar problem?. Could a defective viewfinder be the cause of the problem?. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Juan

Since it appears the bottom information row is part of the viewfinder, I would recommend prior to sending the camera to Nikon for repair, to remove the finder from the body and make sure all connections are clean. A pencil eraser is a great way to clean a contact. After cleaning with a pencil eraser, blow the contacts clean. Also recommend to hold the camera on an angle so none of the eraser bits fall into any other part of the camera.
I guess if this does not correct the problem, you will have to send the complete camera to Nikon repair...Good luck,

Doug, Before another day goes by, I would like to thank you for your help. I've been busy and away from town and couldn't answer you before. Since the counter display on the top LCD works just fine, it makes sense to infere that the problem is originated in the viewfinder itself. I'm working in getting a new DP-30 to replace the one that is suspected as defective. I'll let you know when I have a chance to do that. Thanks again and best regards. Juan
According to what I was able to gather the problem is in the viewfinder itself. I haven't been able to fix the problem yet because I have no other DP-30 to try. I'll let you know of any progress on this. I'll appreciate you let me know of your findings if any. Thanks. Juan
